First exoplanet discovered by a Chinese scientist named “Wangshu”

The exoplanet “Wangshu” (god of the moon) and its sun “Xizhi” (goddess of the sun) are located in the constellation altar, about 440 light years from earth. The names were given by a second-year high-school student XU Yi-Xu who attends to the 6th Junior High School’s Astronomical Circle.

The mass of Xizhi is twice the mass of the Sun, while the mass of Wangshu is 2.7 times that of Jupiter, the largest planet in the solar system. “Xizhi” is bright and can be observed with optical telescopes most of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.
