Chinese-German consortium develops astaxanthin-producing tomatoes using synthetic biology

A team from Peking University, CAS Kunming Institute of Botany and Frankfurt University introduced and overexpressed two algal enzymes which efficiently convert β-carotene to astaxanthin in tomato leading to hyperproduction of astaxanthin in the fruits. Team at CAS Institute of Microbiology elucidates novel pathway for turning CO2 into PHBV bioplastics
