Chinese companies build wind farms and solar fields in Jordan

China’s Three Gorges International Corporation (CTGI) has built and acquired a wind farm in Shobak, Jordan. which was put into operation in 2021 with an installed capacity of 45 MW. The project could power around 30,000 Jordanian households within a year.

In addition CGTI operates another wind farm and a solar power plant in Jordan. The three plants have a capacity of 156 MW and can provide Jordan with 440 million kWh of clean energy every year.

According to Jordan’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, renewable energy sources contributed around 29 percent of Jordan’s total energy output as of the end of July 2022, and the country aims to increase the proportion to 50 percent in 2030.

Chinese companies including the CTGI are playing a critical role in Jordan’s built-up of environment-friendly power projects and have also signed internship contracts with local universities in Jordan, offering technical training for students.
