China starts first 10 kt green hydrogen iron-making project

The project is jointly done by the Angang Group, the CAS Institute of Process Engineering), the CAS Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Shanghai University and others. It is considered of great significance to the development of a green and low-carbon steel industry in China, as the iron and steel industry are the main energy consumers and carbon dioxide emitters in China.

The project adopts electrolytic water hydrogen production and ironmaking technology in a fluidised bed by hydrogen reduction. The process is planned to be put into operation in 2023.
