CAS Guangzhou Institute of Energy reports reports progress for aviation biofuel from straw

Using a water-phase catalytic process with high hydrothermal stability in a pilot plant, a fuel was obtained which reached the ASTM7566 standard. Cost estimates showed that 1 t of aviation biofuel can be produced from 8 – 10 t of straw biomass for a production cost of about 8000 – 10000 Yuan/t. China’s annual demand for aviation fuel is 25 million t and expected to double within 10 years.
