China’s Beijing Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences has begun using a speed precision low-cost soil in-situ monitoring sensor, “Chi-Do”. It provides precise measurements of 38 soil indicators in farmland in just 10 minutes. A handful of soil collected from farmland is placed in the on-site device, and after a few minutes of waiting, data on nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, moisture, selenium, magnesium, calcium, and iron content is displayed. In addition, it can also determine heavy metal indicators related to food safety and various trace elements related to food nutrition.

The “Chizu” has already been upgraded to its second generation.
