The Patrol and Special Police Detachment of the Hangzhou Public Security Bureau, Zhejiang Province, recently conducted a water-based emergency rescue drill in the waters of Xianghu Lake. During the “flying life buoy” drill, an orange life buoy took off from the shore and approached a person who had fallen into the water. Upon landing on the water, the device automatically stopped its propellers. Even when the person being rescued lay face-down on it, the buoy remained stable and did not sink. Minutes later, rescue personnel arrived to retrieve the individual. Afterward, the device reactivated its propellers, took off from the water, and returned to its starting point.

According to officials at the scene, this equipment is an AI-powered smart flight rescue robot developed by the Hangzhou Scenic Area Public Security Sub-bureau—essentially a “flying life buoy.” Equipped with an autonomous navigation system, it can fly to the side of a person in the water and provide continuous buoyancy. Once the rescue mission is complete, it can automatically return to its point of origin.
