In 2021, while an archaeological team was excavating the Sanxingdui No. 7 sacrificial pit, they discovered a long, slender tool or weapon-like object standing vertically at the bottom of the pit. Laboratory analysis by the research team confirmed that this object is a meteorite artifact. This is the oldest meteorite artifact from the Chinese Bronze Age confirmed to date.

According to Chinese archeologists,”although it is not a product of artificial iron production, it tells us that the ancestors of southwestern China recognized and utilized iron as a material.”
