Deng, an art teacher from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, suffered high-level quadriplegia after an accident. In December 2025, Deng underwent BMI surgery. Within a month of the surgery, Deng was able to grasp objects precisely as intended and autonomously perform highly precise movements such as writing and drawing.
