Using samples from the lunar probe Chang’e-6, for the first time the water content of the mantle on the far side of the moon was measured. It is less than 2 micrograms per gram and very “dry”. The lunar mantle is located between the crust and core of the moon, about 60-1,000 kilometers deep below the surface of the moon. The water content of the lunar mantle is of great significance in elucidating the origin of the moon, magma activity, and its impact on resources and the environment.
