The CAS Institute of Process Engineering and Shaanxi Coal Technology Development Center and Shaanxi Coal Industry Chemical Technology Research Institute have successfully completed a full process calibration of diisocyanate (MDI) synthesis from urea.
Isocyanate is an important raw material for the preparation of polyurethanes, widely used in important fields such as automobiles, wind power, and high-speed rail. The new technology mainly uses bulk chemicals such as aniline, urea and formaldehyde as raw materials, and adopts a non-phosgene technology route to prepare isocyanates. It is a major industry green upgrading technology within the country’s “dual carbon” strategy.
Over the years, the R&D teams have been carrying out the research and development of key technologies for green process integration technologies for the entire industry chain such as nitrobenzene hydrogenation at room temperature, non-phosgene preparation of isocyanates, and short-process mild preparation of butylene oxide, and has built a complete set of technical systems for the preparation of bulk aromatic isocyanates, special aliphatic isocyanates (XDI, HDI), and bio-based isocyanates (PDI).
