Prof. Jiuhui Qu received the Outstanding R&D Award for Water, Prof. Klaus Butterbach-Bahl the Outstanding R&D Award for Agriculture, and Dr Mathis Wackernagel the Leadership Award.
Prof. Qu is the former Director of the CAS Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences and a Distinguished Professor at Tsinghua University. He has developed a comprehensive technical system “from source to tap,” ensuring safe drinking water in both urban and rural areas while addressing water risks. This initiative has positively impacted more than 200 million people in China and around the world.
The Sustainable Development Award was established by the Nobel Foundation for Sustainable Development in 2022, and is divided into the Implementation Leadership Award, the Outstanding R&D Award and the Special Contribution Award. The Outstanding R&D Award focuses on applied science and rewards the most influential sustainable development technologies in the world, including energy, water and agriculture.
