A groundbreaking ceremony for two 740 TEU fully electric open-top container ships was recently held in Hukou County, Jiangxi Province. This marks the start of construction of China’s first 10,000-ton fully electric, state-of-the-art smart ship.

The ships are 127.8 meters long, 21.6 meters wide, and 10.5 meters deep. They are propelled by dual engines and dual propellers, and have a maximum sailing speed of 11.5 knots. The loading area is approximately 740 TEU, and they are powered by 10 box-type batteries, providing renewable energy through a solar power generation system.

The ships are equipped with a smart integrated platform, a smart machinery room, and autonomous navigation in the open sea, with functions such as real-time peripheral vision, all-weather navigation visual sensing, route planning, autopilot, autonomous collision avoidance, and navigation mode switching. The first ship is scheduled to be put into service in January 2026.
