In the “Medium- to Long-Term Plan for the Development of the Hydrogen Energy Industry (2021-35)” recently released by the National Development and Reform Commission and other departments, it was clearly stated that a focus will be on promoting the application of hydrogen fuel cells to medium and large vehicles, and that the application space for new energy buses and trucks such as hydrogen fuel cells will be developed.

The first hydrogen fuel cell water sprinkler truck in Sichuan Province has recently begun operation in Chengdu. The four vehicles that have been put into use this time are an innovative application of Rong Innovation Energy’s hydrogen fuel cell power series products in the road transportation field. They can travel 400 kilometers with 15 minutes of hydrogen refueling, and have the advantages of being pollution-free, low noise, and a comfortable driving experience.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Transport, there are more than 600 hydrogen vehicles, such as hydrogen-fueled route buses and logistics trucks, being promoted and used in the province. Six cities (autonomous prefectures) of Chengdu, Panzhihua, Deyang, Neijiang, Ziyang, and Liangshan are operating hydrogen energy route bus routes. The construction of hydrogen stations is also progressing in China, with over 450 completed stations as of the end of 2023, the most in the world. However, this scale is said to be still insufficient compared to actual demand.

According to a forecast by the China Society of Automotive Engineering, the number of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles on the roads will reach about 1 million by 2035.
