Researchers at the CAS DICP in Dalian have developed a fuel cell and lithium battery coupling power system for drones, and a test flight has been completed successfully. The power system features high specific energy, long cruising range, wide temperature range, and fast fuel injection. The high specific energy hydrogen hybrid power supply developed by the team has a specific energy of 600 watt-hours (Wh) per 1000 grams, and the applicable ambient temperature ranges from -20°C to +40°C,” he said. By combining high specific power stack design technology with high energy density hydrogen source technology, the specific energy of the power source is more than 800 Wh per 1000 grams, and the temperature range of the applicable environment will be from minus 40°C to plus 60°C.

The use of this system in drones is hoped to solve lithium batteries disadvantages presently used in drones, such as short cruising time and low adaptability to low-temperature environments.
