According to PetroChina Petrochemical Group (PetroChina), China’s first 10,000-ton solar-powered green hydrogen model project, the Kucha Green Hydrogen Model Project, began producing hydrogen on June 30. The scale of hydrogen production will be 20,000 tons per year, hydrogen storage capacity is 210,000 cubic meters, and hydrogen transportation capacity is 28,000 standard cubic meters per hour.

The green hydrogen produced by the project will be supplied to the local China Petrochemical Tahe Pulverization Company. The hydrogen will be produced in place of existing natural gas fossil energy, reducing CO2 emissions by 485,000 tons per year.

China is currently working to develop a hydrogen energy industry. The “Medium- and Long-Term Plan for the Development of Hydrogen Energy Industry (2021-35),” recently notified by the National Development and Reform Commission and the State Energy Administration, calls for the establishment of a hydrogen energy supply system centered on the local use of hydrogen production from byproduct hydrogen and renewable energy by 2025.
