Probiotics will reach a global market of 28,8 billion USD by 2015, and the Asia-Pacific region accounts for 45 % of consumption. In probiotics, over 700 kinds of lactic acid bacteria are used. The Chinese market for yoghurts, health drinks based on lactobacilli etc. is growing rapidly. The largest producer, Yakult, has an output of four million bottles at its Wuxi production site.
