Group at CAS Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology finds improved production of 2-deoxy-D-ribose via protein engineering of aldolase

The essential progress was due to protein engineering of a 2-deoxy-D-ribose 5-phosphate aldolase obtained from Klebsiella pneumonia. The whole-cell process led to 287 g/L yields after 16 hrs in an E. coli host.
