A Mecha Fighting Tournament was held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. Heated battles were waged by the world’s first humanoid fighting robots. The tournament is a three-round point system (2 minutes per round), and the winner is the one with the most points. If a punch or kick hits the opponent’s head or torso, points are added as a valid attack (1 point for a punch, 3 points for a kick). Each time a robot is knocked down, it loses 5 points, and if it cannot get up within 8 seconds after being knocked down, it loses 10 points and is knocked out.

In this robot fighting competition, attacks with punches and kicks, like kickboxing, were allowed. While the robot half marathon competition was a competition of endurance and speed, the fighting competition required flexibility and the ability to maintain balance. Unitree Robotics’ humanoid robot “G1,” which participated in the competition, had mastered the eight basic martial arts movements, such as straight punches, hooks, and front kicks, as well as combinations that combine these movements.

During the match, engineers controlled the robots in real time through voice control and remote control. This can be said to have made human-in-the-loop collaboration between humans and robots possible through martial arts matches.
