The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China (MIIT) recently announced the “2025 Industrial and Information Technology Standard Work Outline,” which stated that it will promote standard research on 5G-A (5G-Advanced), low-altitude information infrastructure, 6G, quantum cryptography communication.

The outline specifies the following key initiatives for building standards in emerging industries:

  • Optimization and development of new-generation information technology standards, such as cloud computing, big data, blockchain, and the Beidou satellite positioning system.
  • Accelerating the building of standards systems for new information infrastructure, and promoting standards research for 5G-A, low-altitude information infrastructure, 6G, quantum cryptography communication, etc.
  • Building standards systems for new materials such as advanced metals, advanced non-ferrous metals, and advanced polymers; new energy vehicles with key parts, smart connected technologies, and full lifecycle management; robots used in specialized industrial applications; advanced equipment such as advanced digitally controlled machine tools, medical equipment, and emergency response safety equipment; equipment for marine projects, such as green smart ships and deep-sea polar equipment; and civil aviation, including low-altitude industry and large aircraft.

The outline also outlines that with regard to setting standards for future industries, it will advance research into standards for the metaverse, brain-machine interfaces, quantum information, humanoid robots, generative AI, advanced computing, future displays, future networks, and new types of energy storage.
