The China-Russia East Route Natural Gas Pipeline (hereinafter referred to as the “China-Russia East Route”), the largest single-pipe natural gas pipeline in China, was opened to the full on the 2nd of December. The annual transportation capacity has increased to 38 billion cubic meters, realizing a direct connection to Shanghai for “north gas southward (transporting natural gas from the northern region to the southern region).”

In 2025, the amount of natural gas entering the Yangtze River Delta region through the China-Russia East Route is expected to increase by nearly 5 billion cubic meters, effectively improving the region’s natural gas supply capacity and peak emergency response capacity. The China-Russia-East route is the third long-distance cross-border natural gas pipeline to supply gas to China, following the Central Asia Pipeline and the China-Myanmar Pipeline. The China-Russia-East route starts from Heihe in Heilongjiang Province and reaches Shanghai, passing through nine provinces, autonomous regions and directly controlled municipalities. Its construction has been approved in three stages: the northern section (Heilongjiang Heihe-Jilin Changling), the middle section (Jilin Changling-Hebei Yongqing), and the southern section (Hebei Yongqing-Shanghai). Before the full line was opened, 10 gas compression stations, including Heihe, Wudalianchi, Shenyang and Anping, were completed in succession, and the boosting project for the Qinhuangdao station and the backup compressor projects for compression stations in Wudalianchi, Zhaoyuan and Jinzhou were put into operation, ensuring a stable energy supply to the areas along the route.

The China-Russia-East route, a symbolic project of China’s third-generation large-capacity natural gas pipeline, is the first in China to adopt an ultra-large diameter of 1,422 mm, X80 high-strength steel, and a high pressure level of 12 megapascals. The 36 high-power compressors along the pipeline use Chinese-made equipment, and the domestic production rate of key parts such as centrifugal compressors, high-speed synchronous motors, and frequency converters is 100%.
