On October 15, the Dushanzi Petrochemical Tarim 1.2-million-ton ethylene project—China’s first end-to-end green and low-carbon ethylene project—officially commenced full-scale commercial operations.
Located in the Shangku High-tech Industrial Development Zone in Korla City, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, this project serves as a model for green and low-carbon development. It has established an integrated, low-carbon technological ecosystem encompassing
- direct green power supply,
- carbon capture,
- blue hydrogen,
- blue ammonia, and
- green fertilizers.
The project is capable of utilizing 1 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green electricity annually and producing 900,000 tons of polyethylene per year. With a total production capacity of 1.45 million tons for rubber and plastic products, it fills a critical gap in the industrial landscape of southern Xinjiang, specifically regarding the production of high-performance polyolefins and synthetic rubber.
