According to the “China Hydrogen Energy Development Report 2026” released by the National Energy Administration on August 11, 2026, China’s hydrogen production capacity exceeded 51 million tons per year by the end of 2025, an increase of approximately 1.4% year-on-year. Annual hydrogen production volume surpassed 39 million tons, up about 7.3% from the previous year. Additionally, China accounts for 53% of the global capacity for hydrogen production derived from renewable energy.
Statistics indicate that by the end of 2025, the capacity for renewable energy-based hydrogen production—either completed or under construction—exceeded 1 million tons per year in China. Of this, operational capacity exceeded 250,000 tons per year, more than double the figure from the end of 2024. Capacity under construction exceeded 900,000 tons per year, with water electrolysis serving as the primary production method.
At the same time, efforts to diversify hydrogen energy infrastructure are accelerating. By the end of 2025, more than 20 long-distance pure hydrogen pipelines were planned in China, with a total planned length exceeding 5,500 kilometers and an operational length exceeding 350 kilometers. A cumulative total of over 590 hydrogen refueling stations have been built nationwide, and the number of fuel cell vehicles in use has reached approximately 32,000. In 2025 alone, nearly 8,000 fuel cell vehicles were newly deployed across the country.
