The gross enrollment rate for preschool education was 92.90%, the completion rate of 9-year compulsory education was 96.10%, the gross enrollment rate for high school was 92.00%, and the gross enrollment rate for higher education institutions was 61.30%, according to Guangming Daily.
Looking at higher education, the total number of students enrolled in various types of higher education institutions nationwide was 48,725,700. The average number of students per four-year university was 17,518, per four-year vocational university was 16,882, and per higher vocational college (equivalent to junior college) was 10,075.
The total number of graduates from four-year universities, four-year vocational universities, and junior colleges nationwide was 11,051,000. Among them, four-year universities accounted for 5,236,000, four-year vocational universities for 86,800, and junior colleges for 5,733,600.
The number of students enrolled in graduate programs nationwide was 1,438,500, including 201,600 in doctoral programs and 1,236,800 in master’s programs. The total number of graduate students was 4,299,500, with 753,600 in doctoral programs and 3,546,000 in master’s programs. The number of graduate program graduates was 1,166,500, including 112,900 doctoral graduates and 1,053,600 master’s graduates.
