In the CAS Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology (TIB), a “patent wall” showcases a series of cutting-edge breakthroughs—such as the synthesis of starch from carbon dioxide, original base-editing technologies, and the biomanufacturing of bulk chemicals.
To date, TIB has secured nearly 2,000 invention patents.
Since its establishment in 2012, TIB has focused on innovation in industrial biotechnology, conducting strategic, forward-looking, institutionalized, and systematic basic and applied research. The institute has signed over 480 agreements with more than 300 enterprises, successfully bringing a wide range of biomanufacturing products and technologies to market.
As a future-oriented industry, biomanufacturing still has significant room for growth in total output value. To this end, TIB has collaborated with research institutions and enterprises to weave an innovation network covering various stages, including pilot testing and open innovation. Its biomanufacturing pilot platform was selected by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology as one of the first “Biomanufacturing Pilot Capability Construction Platforms” .
