The CAS Institute of Engineering Thermophysics has had accredited its high-power compressed air energy storage compressor. Its function is to compress atmospheric pressure air to a high-pressure state and store it in the storage device, thus converting electrical energy into the internal energy and pressure potential energy of air.

It has a maximum discharge pressure of 10.1 MPa, a maximum power of 101 MW, a variable operating range of 38.7%-118.4%, and an efficiency of 88.1% at the maximum discharge pressure, reaching an internationally leading level.

Since 2005, the Institute has taken the lead in conducting research on compressed air energy storage technology in China. After more than 20 years of efforts, it has proposed a new principle of advanced compressed air energy storage and made breakthroughs in a number of key technologies for advanced compressed air energy storage ranging from 1.5MW to 10MW to 100MW to 300MW.
