According to data released by the National Energy Administration, China issued more than 2.9 billion green power certificates in 2025, of which 1.893 billion were tradable. In December alone, the number of certificates issued reached 211 million, with tradable certificates accounting for 71%. Trading data shows that the total number of green certificate transactions nationwide in 2025 was 930 million, of which 250 million were green certificates associated with green power trading.

Green certificates are electronic identification cards for electricity generated from renewable energy sources. One green certificate is equivalent to 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of renewable energy. The rapid expansion in the number of green certificates issued and the volume of transactions indicates the continuous improvement of China’s renewable energy development and utilization levels.
