According to Professor Zhang Yangjun of the School of Vehicles and Transportation at Tsinghua University, the commercialization of flying cars will see explosive growth between 2025 and 2030.

The breakthrough will be made in specialized scenarios, with emergency rescue, police equipment upgrades, and road inspections being the initial areas of application. General-purpose scenarios will evolve along the path of ‘tourism and leisure first, followed by connectivity services, and urban commuting as the final stage.’ Currently, tourist flight projects by companies like Ehang Intelligence have been put into practical use. Going forward, the focus will be on short-distance connections between airports and urban areas and inter-city travel, with intra-urban commuting being a long-term goal and will be gradually promoted.

According to Professor Zhang, the next five years will be the ‘demonstration and ecosystem construction period,’ the following 10 years will be the ‘initial period of large-scale application,’ and 20 years from now China will enter the ‘three-dimensional convergence development period,’ entering a mature transportation stage where air and ground are integrated.
