The Qinghai Power Trading Center, Beijing Power Trading Center, and Jilin Power Trading Center recently jointly established a cross-regional, mid- to long-term cross-regional power transmission transaction through the collaboration of the three power grids. The cumulative amount of electricity traded reached 18.76 million kWh.
Qinghai Province experiences late sunset in winter, resulting in abundant sunlight between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m., maintaining high levels of solar power output. Meanwhile, Northeast China experiences early sunset, which corresponds to the evening peak of electricity usage. Taking advantage of this natural, spatiotemporal complementary characteristic, this transaction successfully connects the northwestern region’s solar resources to the northeastern region’s nighttime power supply through the national interconnected power grid. This effectively addresses Qinghai Province’s new energy consumption challenges and meets Jilin Province’s energy demand.
This is a beneficial practice for the high-quality development of the national unified electricity market, further expanding Qinghai Province’s optimized distribution of new energy throughout the country, and expanding Qinghai Province’s medium- to long-term electricity transmission scope to 22 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government).
