The Ningxia Zhongwei 3-megawatt (MW) Solar Power Plant EPC General Contractor Project, China’s largest stand-alone solar power plant project, one of the large-scale desert clean energy base projects planned for construction during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), has recently connected to the grid and begun generating its first phase of power.
As one of the key construction projects for Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region in 2025, this project covers a total area of approximately 7,859 hectares, with a total investment of approximately 10.1 billion yuan (1 yuan is approximately 21.5 yen), a total power generation capacity of 3 million kW, and the installation of 5.43 million solar power modules. Once fully operational, the project is expected to generate approximately 5.78 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of annual power, reducing emissions by 4.66 million tons of carbon dioxide, 33,900 tons of sulfur dioxide, and 50,000 tons of nitrogen oxides each year, and creating approximately 1,500 local jobs.
