The world’s tallest pumped-storage power station located in Jiangsu Jurong began full operation and power generation .

The power station is located in Jurong City and is equipped with six reversible pump-turbines and generator-motors, each with a capacity of 225,000 kilowatts (kW), for a total installed capacity of 1.35 million kW. Its annual power generation capacity is 1.35 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh), enough to meet the annual electricity needs of approximately 360,000 households. Once fully operational, the plant will be able to provide approximately 2.7 million kW of bidirectional power adjustment capacity, saving approximately 140,000 tons of standard coal and 349,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year. This is expected to further stabilize energy supply and promote green and low-carbon development in the Yangtze River Delta region.

The plant’s upper reservoir dam will be 182.3 meters high, making it the world’s highest pumped storage dam. Its storage capacity will reach 17.07 million cubic meters, approximately 1.2 times that of West Lake (Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province).

To date, the total operating installed capacity of China’s pumped storage plants has exceeded 62 million kW, already meeting the 62 million kW installed capacity target set out in the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025).
