This year, humanoid robots have revolutionized public perception in China.

  1. At the assembly plant for the Chinese electric vehicle brand “Jiqi,” the 176cm tall humanoid robot “Walker S2” methodically carried containers of materials in temperatures as high as 42°C. When its battery was about to run out, the robot moved to a battery exchange station, replaced it by itself, and returned to the production line fully charged just three minutes later. This human-independent battery exchange system was developed by Chinese robot manufacturer Yubi-sen Technology and allows humanoid robots to operate continuously in factories with high or low temperatures, enabling nonstop work 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Currently, China’s manufacturing industry is facing a serious labor shortage. Some young people are choosing jobs that offer more freedom and flexibility over factory manufacturing. In this supply-demand mismatch, humanoid robots may be the key to breaking the deadlock.

  3. On July 17th, the 100m final of the 2025 World Humanoid Robot Games was held at the National Speed Skating Pavilion in Beijing. The “Embodied Tiangong Ultra” robot from the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center won with a time of 21.50 seconds. The event was the world’s first all-around competition featuring humanoid robots, and 280 teams from 16 countries and regions gathered in Beijing. According to the official rules, if a team uses a remotely controlled robot, the final time is multiplied by a weighting factor of 1, while if the robot is fully autonomous, the  weighting factor is 0.8. Although Embodied Tiangong Ultra was not the first to cross the finish line, it adopted a fully autonomous navigation system and completed the race without remote human control, so its final time was in first place according to the rules. Second place went to Beijing Lingzi Technology Co., Ltd.’s Yushu H1 robot (22.08 seconds), and third place went to Shanghai Gaoyi Technology Co., Ltd.’s Yushu H1 robot (24.53 seconds). In the world’s first humanoid robot half marathon, held in April this year, Embodied Tiangong Ultra won in 2 hours, 40 minutes, and 42 seconds, becoming the world’s first humanoid robot half marathon champion.
