The Shenzhen Metro Group in collaboration with real estate developer Vanke has deployed three robots which ride subway trains during low-passenger hours and deliver goods to retail stores. Convenience store staff place orders via a dedicated app, and the staff loads the goods onto the robot. The robot then independently selects the best route and automatically delivers the goods to the designated store.

The robot is designed to have a maximum payload capacity of 130 kg and incorporates numerous software and hardware technologies, including an AI delivery algorithm, panoramic LiDAR, and a specially designed chassis. The panoramic LiDAR acts as the robot’s “eyes,” creating a panoramic map of the station to help it avoid getting lost. The chassis’ mechanical structure and control system act as its “skeleton and motor nerves,” enabling the robot to autonomously enter and exit elevators on station platforms, board and disembark trains, and automatically recognize when a train arrives.
