China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the National Development and Reform Commission recently issued a notice on cultivating intermediate testing capacity-building platforms for bio-manufacturing. The goal is to establish more than 20 intermediate platforms by 2027, provide services to more than 200 companies, and support the development of more than 400 types of products, according to China News.
An intermediate testing platform is an integrated support platform for conducting intermediate demonstration tests that act as a bridge from the research and development stage to mass production.
This cultivation plan covers a wide range of fields in bio-manufacturing, and will cultivate intermediate testing platforms in key product areas such as food and additives, biopharmaceuticals, cosmetics, chemical industry, energy, and enzyme preparations, promoting coordinated innovation and development throughout the entire industrial chain.
The notice set out three policies:
- to promote gradual development and sector-specific construction, and encourage the construction of intermediate testing capacity-building platforms by national key laboratories and national-level science and technology innovation platforms;
- to adhere to the principles of market-driven and needs-driven, and promote platforms to provide paid services in line with marketization principles and operate stably; and
- to strictly adhere to rules and ensure safety, and strengthen the ability to ensure data security and biosafety.
