On June 5, the World Environment Day, the China Science and Technology Association Ecological Environment Industry-Academia Consortium announced the top 10 scientific and technological advances in the field of ecological environment for 2024.
According to Academician Wang Jinnan, chairman of the consortium and president of the Chinese Academy of Environmental Science, China’s ecological and environmental field has seen a succession of high-level scientific and technological achievements, with the number of high-level academic papers and technical patents ranking among the world’s highest. An ecological and environmental science and technology support system has already been established covering key areas such as water, air, soil, solid waste, and environmental monitoring, and technology supply has been independent, largely meeting China’s needs for ecological and environmental protection.
The top 10 announced this time are as follows:
(1) Mechanism of response of perennial permafrost carbon cycle in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau to climate warming
(2) Variation rules and control principles of major atmospheric components under climate change
(3) Development and application of multi-element smart sensing and large-scale language model forecasting system for environmental meteorology
(4) Research and development of the “EPICC-Model”, an integrated coupling model of emissions and atmospheric processes, and open source release
(5) A new formula for estimating carbon derived from soil microorganisms worldwide and its impact on carbon cycle
(6) Research on urban land subsidence structure and its mechanism in China
(7) Mechanism of action of climate change and terrestrial ecosystems
(8) Theory of gradual ecological restoration and practice of river restoration
(9) Smart exhaust gas, carbon, and pollution Key technologies and their applications in the field of dyeing coordination reduction
(10) Technology system and its application for capacity expansion, pollution reduction, and carbon emission reduction in the Yellow River Basin
