1000kW battery locomotive that can be fully charged in 70 minutes rolls off the line
People’s Daily Japanese Edition, April 22, 2025, 14:33
China’s first 1000 kW battery locomotive rolled off the line at CRRC Dalian Company. The first batch of 10 battery locomotives will be introduced to steel companies’ production sites. They will replace traditional high-pollution internal combustion locomotives and accelerate the green transformation of traditional industries.
The battery locomotives use high-power lithium iron phosphate batteries and use liquid-cooled fast charging technology to achieve an ultra-high power charge of 680kW, allowing it to be fully charged in 70 minutes. The liquid cooling system of the charging pole ensures the efficiency and stability of the charging process and achieves rapid heat dissipation. The adoption of mature charging pole technology improves the convenience of installation and operation for users.
The locomotive is equipped with a backup automated smart transportation mode, which broadens the driver’s field of vision, complements the limitations of traditional visual observation, and eliminates blind spots. The digital planar shunting operation system installed on the locomotive integrates wireless communication, positioning technology, electronic maps, and automated control to improve work efficiency, safety, and smartness.
