A team of researchers from Jiangxi Agricultural University used pollen to constantly update the color variations of rapeseed by reconstructing genes with different flower colors using methods such as crossbreeding with superior varieties, backcrossing, and self-pollination. This year, five new flower colors were selected and cultivated, increasing the number of flower colors to 75.

According to the researchers, rapeseed oil extracted from colorful rapeseed flowers has a rich fragrance and a rich flavor, and also contains a high concentration of nervonic acid, at 1.0 to 1.6 percent, which is much higher than that of regular rapeseed oil (0.05 percent). Nervonic acid has a nerve repair effect and is mainly used in the rehabilitation of Alzheimer’s disease, the after-effects of stroke, cerebral palsy, facial nerve paralysis and neurasthenia.
