42% of China’s Top 50 technology companies are in the life sciences

According to the “2024 Detroit China Technology Fast 50 & China Rising Star” ranking and research report released on the 16th, the average sales growth of the top 50 Chinese technology companies in 2024 over the past three years was 588%. The top companies were most likely to be in the life sciences. China News reported.

According to the report, the number of companies with sales of 50 million yuan (1 yuan = about 21 yen) to 100 million yuan increased significantly, and their proportion of the total rose from 24% last year to 30%.

Looking at the top 50 companies by region, the concentration of Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen reached 70%, exceeding 64% last year. Looking at the industry, the proportion of life science companies has increased over the past three years, reaching 36% in 2024, surpassing the software and hardware industries for the first time.

Among the 50 technology companies rated as “China Rising Stars,” life sciences accounted for the highest proportion at 42%. The second to fourth places were hardware (22%), software (12%), and high-end equipment (10%).

According to Zhao Jintong, partner in charge of the Deloitte Tohmatsu China Technology Fast 50 project, Chinese tech companies maintain their emphasis on research and development, and the proportion of R&D expenditure is steadily increasing. In addition, the majority of China’s top 50 and rising star companies are mainly investing in artificial intelligence and machine learning. Cloud computing, big data technology, and robotics and automation are also hot areas that companies are paying attention to.
