China’s first hydrogen-powered smart intercity high-speed train vehicle, the CINOVA H2, was unveiled at the railway technology trade fair “InnoTrans 2024” in Berlin, Germany. The train is powered by hydrogen and achieves “zero carbon” emissions while traveling. It also demonstrates high performance in key areas such as operating speed, passenger transport capacity, and cruising range, injecting new impetus into the green advancement of non-electrified railway passenger transport facilities.

The vehicle was developed by CRRC Qingdao Sifang Locomotive and Vehicle Corporation. It is made up of four cars and is equipped with a high-output 960-kilowatt (kW) hydrogen fuel cell. It has a continuous operating speed of 160 kilometers per hour and a maximum operating speed of 200 kilometers per hour. The train’s range is 1,200 kilometers at 160 kilometers per hour, 2,000 kilometers at 120 kilometers per hour, and 3,000 kilometers at 80 kilometers per hour. It is also fast to fill up with hydrogen, taking only 15 minutes to fill up once.
