The Huayang Group, a coal company, has been focusing on sodium-ion batteries since 2019, and has been working with the Chinese Academy of Sciences to develop the sodium-ion battery related industry.

In sodium-ion batteries, hard carbon in amorphous carbon is considered to be the negative electrode material with the greatest potential for sodium-ion batteries, and the Huayang Group has an abundance of anthracite available. The group has put a 1 megawatt-hour (MWh) sodium-ion battery energy storage system into operation, produced a 1,000-ton sodium-ion battery positive and negative electrode material project, and mass-produced positive and negative electrode materials for sodium-ion batteries. The group has become the first company in China to integrate and apply the entire industrial chain of sodium-ion batteries, from materials to cells, packs, and integration.

Sodium-ion batteries have the characteristics of high safety, a wide temperature range, and a long life. Compared with lithium element, sodium element has abundant reserves and is widely distributed, ensuring energy security.
