According to China Nuclear Industrial Group, construction has recently begun on the Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Unit 5 (C-5) in Pakistan. This is the seventh nuclear reactor China has exported to Pakistan, and the third example of the third-generation nuclear reactor, Hualong-1, developed independently by China, to be exported to Pakistan.

The two countries have cooperatively completed six reactors so far, providing about 30 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean power to the region each year. After the completion of the C-5 project, annual power generation is expected to reach approximately 10 billion kwh, further optimizing Pakistan’s energy structure and driving local economic and social development. The project will further optimize Pakistan’s energy structure and drive the country’s economic and social development.

According to data released by the China Federation of Electric Power Enterprises, in 2022, China’s major electric power enterprises invested and constructed 16 projects related to electric power investment in countries along the “One Belt, One Road” initiative, accounting for 66.7% of the total number of electric power outward investment projects.
