On China’s space station, zebrafish are studied in terms of fish-microbe interactions in a small closed system. Zebrafish can be used for research on bone loss and the expression and function of target genes. A sub-chief designer of the space system is reported to have said, “In the future, we plan to conduct experiments using mice on the space station, including growth experiments of mice in space and space pregnancy and birth experiments of mice fertilized on the ground. We want to study the possibility of human reproduction in space.”
