According to China Petrochemical Corporation, China’s first million-ton class CCUS (Carbon Dioxide Capture, Utilization, and Storage) project at the Qilu Petrochemical – Shengli Oil Field started operation on August 29. The annual reduction of CO2 emission will amount to 1 million tons. According to China Petrochemical officials, the project will cover more than 25 million tons of ultra-low permeability crude oil reserves and deploy a total of 73 injection wells, injecting a cumulative total of more than 10 million tons in 15 years, increasing crude oil production by nearly 3 million tons and increasing extraction rates by more than 12 percent. At the same time, the project will reduce CO2 emissions by 1 million tons annually. This is equivalent to planting nearly 9 million trees. The project will provide practical experience and technical data for China to deploy CCUS project construction on a large scale, helping China achieve its CO2 emissions peak-out and carbon neutrality goals.
