Researchers at Qingdao Agricultural University achieve somatic cloning of forest cat

The team around ZHAO Minghui had isolated and cultured fibroblasts from the cat’s skin tissue, and used a Chinese field cat egg as the nuclear receptor, creating multiple somatic cell cloned embryos through nuclear replacement and artificial activation. After transplanting the cloned embryos to a surrogate mother cat and after 62 days of gestation, the researchers obtained offspring of the forest cat by somatic cell cloning. The cloned cat was born on December 24, 2020, and weighed 75 grams.
