Green energy plans for Beijing 2022 winter olympic games

For the 2022 Winter Olympics, Beijing is planning 15 ice rinks, including the National Center for Speed Skating with 12,000 m2 of ice. The cooling aggregates will be powered exclusively by green electricity from wind and solar power plants, with which Hebei Province has been supplying Beijing since June 2020 via a direct current line. Seven of the ice rinks are to be cooled, for the first time at the Olympic Games, with supercritical CO2 as a refrigerant, and the waste heat generated in the process is to be used to produce hot water.
