CAS Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics puts coal-to-ethanol plant in operation

The plant, jointly launched with the Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum Group, has a capacity of 100,000 metric tons of anhydrous ethanol per year via methanol. Based on this plant, a factory with a capacity of 1,000,000 metric tons per year is planned by 2020. The Chinese production of ethanol was 7 million tons, less than the needs of China’s industrial and energy sectors. Furthermore, only one third of this ethanol, about 2.50 million metric tons , was used as fuel ethanol.
