China’s problem with transgenic agriculture: an uninformed public

According to a survey by CAS on public attitudes towards transgenic technology, only 9.1% claimed knowledge about genetically modified terms, whereas 47.5% considered themselves less”, 24.9% “very little”, 18.4 percent „non” educated. Even among college-educated respondents, only 17,7 % said they understand “very much” or “more” about this technology. Credibility of officials has been weakened: 38.4% and 46.6% of the respondents said they distrust government officials on this matter even more than university scientists and companies.”
