Team at Southwestern University develops improved silk textiles through silkworm genetic engineering

The team of Qingyou XIA, a Yangtze River Professor, succeeded to remove the fibroin H gene using genome editing techniques and inserted synthetic genes coding for fibroin variants with improved properties, e. g., higher stability.
