China plans gigantic water diversion project from wet South to dry North

The project will carry about 45 billion cubic meters of water from the Yantze river reaches tot he North, is estimated to cost 81 billion USD and will take 40 – 50 years to complete. The objective is to reach better water quality in the North, and a compensation mechanism for water polluters is being considered.
