China develops transgenic corn based on independent IP

Based on developments by Peking University and CAAS Institute of Biotechnology, glyphosate-resistant corn was developed based on a proprietary G2-EPSPS gene. After approval by the Ministry of Agriculture in 2012, several rounds of breeding were done since and it is expected that several transgenic corn varieties with improved traits will be widely planted within 2 – 3 years.
